My artistic philosophy - Art is like breathing. Necessary for life. Be creative everyday. Make the world a better place through art. Art is what separates us from animals; it makes us civilized. Make art that makes you happy. Use your emotions to draw, write, paint, sculpt, capture that perfect moment on film etc. Your inner emotions will show in your work and bring it to a different level.

Freedom of Speech? 1st Amendment?

Sun Nov 29, 2009, 1:34 PM
Lately have been thinking a lot about how our rights as Americans have been trampled upon in the last few years. Even now there are bills in congress that are aimed at whidding away at our rights. As an artist, crappy poet and photographer, it makes me wonder where things are headed for us as artists that may be a bit controversial in our topics. It is possible that our rights to express ourselves and our opinions will be trounced upon by the "Man". So when do we cross the line between personal opinion and say something moe serious like personal/political asassignation? If I make a piece of art or write a poem about Obama that does not shed him in a good light, am I now up on the "red" list? hmmmmm...probably. Everytime I watch that Obama children video it gives me chills and not the good kind. It's a bit too reminescent of World World 2 era propagada. And what about defamation? If I express a personal opinion about a subject or a person, when does this cross the line into defamation? After doing some research, it's actually really hard to prove defamation in court. Magazines get sued all the time and win their defense. Opinions and truth. When does the opinion cross the line? What is truth? I guess it's all about the context presented. Hope I'm not boring anyone with this topic. I have much on my mind lately. My rights as an artist being one of them. I also will be removing most of my nude photos. They will be moved to a more secure website. Sorry folks but I can't have my kids friends looking at my pics. It's about protecting him and me.

namaste,
Jane
